Privacy Policy

This policy explains what happens to your data when you use this site (the "Site"). We've tried to write it in plain language. It is general information, not legal advice. If you operate this Site commercially or in a regulated context, have it reviewed by a qualified professional for your jurisdiction.

The short version

The background-removal tool on this Site runs entirely in your own browser. When you choose or drop in a photo, that photo is processed on your device, using a machine-learning model that also runs locally. It is never uploaded, transmitted, or stored on any server we control. We do not see your photos, and we have no way to.

What we don't collect

We do not collect, store, or have access to:

• The photos you upload or the images the tool produces
• Names, email addresses, or any other personal information
• Account data: there are no accounts, logins, or profiles
• Analytics, usage statistics, or behavioral tracking data

We don't use any analytics, advertising, or tracking scripts on this Site.

What does touch the network

To do its work, the tool loads a few external files, all fetched directly by your browser and never routed through, or logged by, us. Two different addresses are involved:

• The tool's own code. The @imgly/background-removal library and its onnxruntime-web companion (the code that runs the AI model) are loaded from the jsDelivr content delivery network. See jsDelivr's own privacy policy.
• The AI model itself. The neural network weights used to actually separate a subject from its background are much larger, and are hosted separately by IMG.LY on their own asset CDN (staticimgly.com). See IMG.LY's privacy policy.

Each of these requests carries the technical information any web request carries (such as your IP address), but never the photo you're editing. That never leaves your device or touches these requests at all. To avoid re-downloading the model on every visit, the Site keeps a local copy of it in your browser and offers a button to clear that copy; see the Cookie Policy for exactly how that works.

Hosting

This Site is a static site with no backend server of its own. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, from the ADD3M/Cutout repository. GitHub, as the hosting provider, automatically logs standard web request data (such as IP addresses and request timestamps) for operating and securing its infrastructure. We do not have access to those logs beyond what GitHub's own Privacy Statement describes.

Children's privacy

This Site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, children or adults, since we don't collect personal information from Site visitors at all.

Changes to this policy

If this Site's data practices change, for example if analytics or a contact form is added later, this page will be updated and the "last updated" date above will change accordingly.
